Supervised hours log for pre-licensed therapists

Supervised hours log for pre-licensed therapists is a SaaS idea for owners of counselling group practices and clinical supervisors with several supervisees, priced to test at $9 per supervisee a month, paid by the practice. Hours towards a licence live in personal spreadsheets, and supervisors sign paper forms months later. With it, pre-licensed therapists log client and supervision hours weekly, supervisors approve them online, and practices see who is close to a licence.

. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build.

What problem does it solve?

Hours towards a licence live in personal spreadsheets, and supervisors sign paper forms months later. When the application is due, totals don’t match and signatures are missing.

Why now: Supervision now often happens by video, so paper sign-off forms no longer fit how supervisors work.

What do they use today?

Most pre-licensed therapists keep their own tally in a notebook or spreadsheet and print a form for the supervisor to sign later. The practice owner learns who is close to a licence only by asking.

How does it work?

Each week a pre-licensed therapist logs hours by date and type, such as client, supervision and other time, with no client names needed. The supervisor reviews the entries and approves them with a typed signature and date. Running totals update against the hour rules the practice has set, and when the application is due the therapist downloads a signed summary.

What goes in the first version?

  • Weekly log of client, supervision and other hours
  • No client names needed: hours by date and type
  • Supervisor approval with a typed signature and date
  • Running totals against rules the practice sets
  • Signed summary to download for the licence application

Who pays, and how much?

Who pays
Owners of counselling group practices and clinical supervisors with several supervisees
Price to test
$9 per supervisee a month, paid by the practice

Charging per supervisee follows the people whose hours are tracked. The practice pays it as part of training its staff, so the therapists themselves are not billed, which fits owners who already organise supervision for their team.

How to test it in 7 days

  1. 1Ask five group practice owners how their pre-licensed therapists track hours and who checks them.
  2. 2Read one licensing board’s hour rules and turn them into a one-page tracker mock-up.
  3. 3Ask in counselling student and early-career groups how they log supervised hours today.

Where to find the first customers

  • Group practice owner communities on LinkedIn
  • Clinical supervisor training providers
  • Counselling graduate programmes and their alumni groups

What are the risks?

  • Licensing boards set different hour rules, so categories and totals must be editable.
  • If staff type client details into notes, privacy rules for health data apply.

You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Supervised hours log for pre-licensed therapists.

Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.

## The product
- What it does: Pre-licensed therapists log client and supervision hours weekly, supervisors approve them online, and practices see who is close to a licence.
- Who pays: Owners of counselling group practices and clinical supervisors with several supervisees
- Their problem: Hours towards a licence live in personal spreadsheets, and supervisors sign paper forms months later. When the application is due, totals don’t match and signatures are missing.
- Price to test: $9 per supervisee a month, paid by the practice (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)

## Build only this first version
1. Weekly log of client, supervision and other hours
2. No client names needed: hours by date and type
3. Supervisor approval with a typed signature and date
4. Running totals against rules the practice sets
5. Signed summary to download for the licence application

## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
- Blog and docs: blog, changelog and docs pages with SEO set up

## New code it needs
- Hour log with categories and approvals
- Totals against editable hour rules
- Signed summary export

## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.

## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.

Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
