Sponsorship tracker for newsletter writers
Sponsorship tracker for newsletter writers is a SaaS idea for newsletter writers who sell sponsorships, alone or with an assistant, priced to test at $19 a month, or $49 for teams. Sponsor deals run through email threads, a calendar and a spreadsheet. With it, writers manage sponsor slots, deadlines, ad copy and invoices in one place, with a booking page for sponsors.
. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build.
What problem does it solve?
Sponsor deals run through email threads, a calendar and a spreadsheet. Writers miss copy deadlines, double-book slots and chase payments by hand.
Why now: For many newsletters, sponsors are the main income, so a missed slot or a late invoice costs real money.
What do they use today?
Most writers send rate cards by email and track slots in a spreadsheet or a notes app. Reminders about copy and payment are separate messages that the writer remembers to send.
How does it work?
A sponsor opens the writer’s booking page, picks a free slot in an upcoming issue and sends their ad copy. The slot appears on the writer’s calendar, with reminders for the copy deadline and the payment deadline, and a status for the invoice. Each sponsor gets a tracked link, so the writer can report on clicks after the issue goes out.
What goes in the first version?
- A calendar of sponsor slots per issue
- A booking page where sponsors pick a slot and send their copy
- Reminders for copy and payment deadlines
- A tracked link per sponsor for the report
- Invoice status per deal
Who pays, and how much?
- Who pays
- Newsletter writers who sell sponsorships, alone or with an assistant
- Price to test
- $19 a month, or $49 for teams
A single monthly price suits a writer who works alone, and a higher team price lets an assistant work in the same calendar. Both replace the spreadsheet and the email threads where the deals live now.
How to test it in 7 days
- 1Find twenty writers who publish sponsor rates and ask how they track bookings.
- 2Interview five about their last missed or late sponsor.
- 3Offer to set up their next month of slots for free.
Where to find the first customers
- Newsletter writer communities and Discord servers
- Writers who post sponsor rates on X and LinkedIn
- Newsletter platform forums
What are the risks?
- Newsletter platforms could add booking features.
- Small newsletters sell few slots, so the market is mostly the bigger ones.

You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Sponsorship tracker for newsletter writers. Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it. ## The product - What it does: Writers manage sponsor slots, deadlines, ad copy and invoices in one place, with a booking page for sponsors. - Who pays: Newsletter writers who sell sponsorships, alone or with an assistant - Their problem: Sponsor deals run through email threads, a calendar and a spreadsheet. Writers miss copy deadlines, double-book slots and chase payments by hand. - Price to test: $19 a month, or $49 for teams (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts) ## Build only this first version 1. A calendar of sponsor slots per issue 2. A booking page where sponsors pick a slot and send their copy 3. Reminders for copy and payment deadlines 4. A tracked link per sponsor for the report 5. Invoice status per deal ## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it - Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations - Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments - Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer - In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app ## New code it needs - Slot calendar and booking page - Copy submissions and deadline reminders - Tracked links per sponsor ## How to work 1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK. 2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files. 3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next. ## Rules - Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel. - Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are. Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
