Member votes and committee elections for associations
Member votes and committee elections for associations is a SaaS idea for secretaries of member associations, co-operatives, societies and sports clubs, priced to test at $39 per voting event, or $19 a month unlimited. Votes happen by a show of hands at a meeting few members attend, or by email replies nobody can verify. With it, associations and clubs run annual meeting votes and committee elections online, with one vote per member and a trusted count.
. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build.
What problem does it solve?
Votes happen by a show of hands at a meeting few members attend, or by email replies nobody can verify. Counting proxies and checking who may vote takes the secretary days.
Why now: Many associations now hold hybrid meetings, so members who join remotely need a fair way to vote.
What do they use today?
Most groups hand out paper slips at the meeting, post proxy forms, or ask members to reply by email. The secretary then checks every name against the member list by hand.
How does it work?
The secretary sets up the member list, marking who may vote on what, then adds each resolution and election as a secret or open ballot. Every eligible member gets a personal voting link by email, and a member who cannot vote can name a proxy. When voting closes, the quorum is checked and the results are saved as a record the committee can share.
What goes in the first version?
- A member list showing who may vote on what
- Resolutions and elections with secret or open ballots
- A personal voting link for each member by email
- Proxy votes and a quorum check
- Results with a record the committee can share
Who pays, and how much?
- Who pays
- Secretaries of member associations, co-operatives, societies and sports clubs
- Price to test
- $39 per voting event, or $19 a month unlimited
Many associations vote only at an annual meeting, so paying per voting event suits them. A monthly plan for unlimited voting events suits groups that poll members through the year, and both are easy to approve.
How to test it in 7 days
- 1Ask five club or association secretaries how they ran their last election and what went wrong.
- 2Read the voting rules in three associations’ constitutions and list the settings the tool needs.
- 3Offer a free online vote to two groups with an annual meeting coming up.
Where to find the first customers
- Club and association secretary groups on Facebook
- Umbrella bodies that support local associations
- Co-operative and community group networks
What are the risks?
- Constitutions differ, so quorum, proxy and eligibility rules must be easy to set.
- A disputed result hurts trust, so the audit record must be clear and tamper-evident.

You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Member votes and committee elections for associations. Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it. ## The product - What it does: Associations and clubs run annual meeting votes and committee elections online, with one vote per member and a trusted count. - Who pays: Secretaries of member associations, co-operatives, societies and sports clubs - Their problem: Votes happen by a show of hands at a meeting few members attend, or by email replies nobody can verify. Counting proxies and checking who may vote takes the secretary days. - Price to test: $39 per voting event, or $19 a month unlimited (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts) ## Build only this first version 1. A member list showing who may vote on what 2. Resolutions and elections with secret or open ballots 3. A personal voting link for each member by email 4. Proxy votes and a quorum check 5. Results with a record the committee can share ## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it - Sign-in: email and password or Google, plus magic links and passkeys you can switch on - Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations - Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments - Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer ## New code it needs - Ballots with secret and open voting - Personal voting links and proxy handling - Quorum check, results and audit record ## How to work 1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK. 2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files. 3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next. ## Rules - Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel. - Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are. Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
