# Trip consent forms for small schools

Trip consent forms for small schools is a SaaS idea for office staff at small independent schools and nurseries, priced to test at $290 a year per school. Consent slips go home in school bags and come back crumpled, late or never. With it, small schools send trip consent forms online, parents sign on their phone, and staff see who’s missing before the day.

## What problem does it solve?

Consent slips go home in school bags and come back crumpled, late or never. On the morning of the trip, staff chase parents at the gate with a paper tally.

**Why now:** Schools already message parents by app and email, so a signed form can arrive the same evening.

## What do they use today?

Most small schools print a slip for every child, tick off the returns on a class list, and keep a folder of signed copies. Allergy and contact details are copied across by hand before the trip.

## How does it work?

The office creates a trip page with the date, cost, kit list and deadline, and parents get a link. Each parent signs consent on their phone and adds allergies and emergency contacts, and automatic reminders go to anyone who hasn’t signed. On the day, staff open a trip list with medical notes, and the records stay filed under that trip.

## What goes in the first version?

- Trip page with date, cost, kit list and deadline
- Parents sign consent and add allergies and emergency contacts
- Automatic reminders to parents who haven’t signed
- Trip-day list with medical notes for staff
- Records kept by trip, ready if questions come later

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Office staff at small independent schools and nurseries
- **Price to test:** $290 a year per school

A yearly price per school matches how schools budget, with one line for the year that an office manager can approve and file. The charge is for the year, not for each trip.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask five school office managers how they collect trip slips and what goes wrong.
2. Ask in online school administrator groups how many slips are missing on trip day.
3. Show one nursery manager a clickable mock-up and ask if they’d use it for the next outing.

## Where to find the first customers

- School administrator groups on Facebook and LinkedIn
- Regional independent school associations
- Nursery owner networks

## What are the risks?

- Forms hold children’s medical notes, so privacy rules for children’s and health data apply.
- School communication suites include forms; stay simpler and cheaper for small schools.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

5 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Teams and roles, Billing, Admin panel, Emails, In-app notifications

**You build:**

- Trip pages and parent consent forms
- Reminders for unsigned forms
- Trip-day list with medical notes

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Trip consent forms for small schools.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Small schools send trip consent forms online, parents sign on their phone, and staff see who’s missing before the day.
- Who pays: Office staff at small independent schools and nurseries
- Their problem: Consent slips go home in school bags and come back crumpled, late or never. On the morning of the trip, staff chase parents at the gate with a paper tally.
- Price to test: $290 a year per school (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Trip page with date, cost, kit list and deadline
2. Parents sign consent and add allergies and emergency contacts
3. Automatic reminders to parents who haven’t signed
4. Trip-day list with medical notes for staff
5. Records kept by trip, ready if questions come later
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Admin panel: a super-admin panel that needs two-step sign-in
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
## New code it needs
- Trip pages and parent consent forms
- Reminders for unsigned forms
- Trip-day list with medical notes
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
