# Rain-day rescheduling for outdoor work crews

Rain-day rescheduling for outdoor work crews is a SaaS idea for owners of painting, roofing, landscaping and pressure-washing companies with crews, priced to test at $39 a month per company, texts at cost. When rain cancels a day, the owner spends the morning phoning customers and reshuffling the week on a whiteboard. When weather stops work, the owner moves the day’s jobs in one go and every affected customer gets their new date.

## What problem does it solve?

When rain cancels a day, the owner spends the morning phoning customers and reshuffling the week on a whiteboard. Customers hear late, and crews turn up at the wrong address.

**Why now:** Customers now expect a message the moment plans change, not a call the next morning.

## What do they use today?

Most owners rework the week by hand on a whiteboard, in a paper diary or in a spreadsheet, then ring or text customers one at a time. Crew leaders get the new plan by phone.

## How does it work?

On a morning when rain stops work, the owner opens the week schedule, which shows each crew and its jobs, and presses the rain-day button. The affected jobs shift forward, and each customer gets an email or text with a new date and a link to confirm it or ask for another day. Crew leaders get the updated week that evening.

## What goes in the first version?

- Week schedule by crew with each job’s customer
- Rain-day button that shifts affected jobs forward
- Bulk email or text with each customer’s new date
- Customers confirm or ask for another day by link
- Updated week sent to crew leaders each evening

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Owners of painting, roofing, landscaping and pressure-washing companies with crews
- **Price to test:** $39 a month per company, texts at cost

One price per company suits an owner who decides alone and runs every crew from one schedule. Texts are charged at cost, so the owner pays extra only in weeks when rain forces many messages.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask ten crew owners what they did the last time rain wiped out a day.
2. Ask in painting and landscaping business groups on Facebook how they tell customers about delays.
3. Show two owners a mock-up of the rain-day button and ask what would stop them using it.

## Where to find the first customers

- Painting, roofing and landscaping business groups on Facebook
- Trade subreddits for painters and landscapers
- Local trade suppliers and paint shops

## What are the risks?

- Field service suites already schedule crews; this must be the quickest way to reshuffle.
- Moving every job forward can clash with other bookings, so owners need easy overrides.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

4 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Teams and roles, Billing, Emails, In-app notifications

**You build:**

- Crew week schedule with jobs
- Rain-day reshuffle with customer messages
- Text messages to customers

[Get the kit](https://www.shipanysaas.com/pricing)

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Rain-day rescheduling for outdoor work crews.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: When weather stops work, the owner moves the day’s jobs in one go and every affected customer gets their new date.
- Who pays: Owners of painting, roofing, landscaping and pressure-washing companies with crews
- Their problem: When rain cancels a day, the owner spends the morning phoning customers and reshuffling the week on a whiteboard. Customers hear late, and crews turn up at the wrong address.
- Price to test: $39 a month per company, texts at cost (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Week schedule by crew with each job’s customer
2. Rain-day button that shifts affected jobs forward
3. Bulk email or text with each customer’s new date
4. Customers confirm or ask for another day by link
5. Updated week sent to crew leaders each evening
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
## New code it needs
- Crew week schedule with jobs
- Rain-day reshuffle with customer messages
- Text messages to customers
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
