# CPD records and audits for professional bodies

CPD records and audits for professional bodies is a SaaS idea for membership managers at small professional bodies and trade associations, priced to test at $99 a month for up to 500 members. Members send training logs as spreadsheets and certificates by email, often in the last week of the year. With it, members log their continuing professional development (CPD) with evidence, and the body checks a sample each year without chasing spreadsheets.

## What problem does it solve?

Members send training logs as spreadsheets and certificates by email, often in the last week of the year. Staff check them by hand and can’t tell who is falling behind.

**Why now:** Clients and regulators increasingly ask professionals for proof of up-to-date training, so bodies need records they can stand behind.

## What do they use today?

Most bodies ask members to submit a form or log file at the year end, and staff keep a master sheet showing who has replied. Evidence sits in an inbox, and audits mean searching old messages.

## How does it work?

Throughout the year a member logs each activity with its hours and evidence. The membership manager sets the yearly requirement for each membership grade, and members who are behind get reminder emails. At audit time the system picks a random sample, the manager reviews each member’s evidence on a review screen, and the board receives a list of who has met the requirement.

## What goes in the first version?

- Members log activities, hours and evidence
- Yearly requirements set per membership grade
- Reminder emails to members who are behind
- A random audit sample with a review screen
- A compliance list for the board

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Membership managers at small professional bodies and trade associations
- **Price to test:** $99 a month for up to 500 members

Bodies plan by the size of their roll, so one flat monthly price that covers members up to a set limit is simple to budget. Nobody has to count logins or audits.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask five membership managers how they collect and check CPD records today.
2. Read the CPD rules of three professional bodies and list what a log must show.
3. Show a mock-up to three membership managers and ask for a pre-order.

## Where to find the first customers

- Membership professional groups on LinkedIn
- Networks for staff who run membership bodies
- Agencies that build websites and databases for membership bodies

## What are the risks?

- Membership databases include CPD modules, so the angle is a lower price and simpler setup.
- Each body’s rules differ, so requirements and evidence types must be flexible.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

5 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Sign-in, Teams and roles, Billing, Emails, In-app notifications

**You build:**

- CPD log with evidence uploads
- Requirements per membership grade
- Audit sampling and review

[Get the kit](https://www.shipanysaas.com/pricing)

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of CPD records and audits for professional bodies.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Members log their continuing professional development (CPD) with evidence, and the body checks a sample each year without chasing spreadsheets.
- Who pays: Membership managers at small professional bodies and trade associations
- Their problem: Members send training logs as spreadsheets and certificates by email, often in the last week of the year. Staff check them by hand and can’t tell who is falling behind.
- Price to test: $99 a month for up to 500 members (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Members log activities, hours and evidence
2. Yearly requirements set per membership grade
3. Reminder emails to members who are behind
4. A random audit sample with a review screen
5. A compliance list for the board
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Sign-in: email and password or Google, plus magic links and passkeys you can switch on
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
## New code it needs
- CPD log with evidence uploads
- Requirements per membership grade
- Audit sampling and review
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
